Officially dicovered by American astronomer Lewis Swift in 1885, NGC 6951 has already been observed by a French astronomer Jerome Coggia 8 years before. Located in Cepheus, this nice barred sprial galaxy holds about 3.55 by 2.6 arc minutes which makes it a rather small target. Shining at 11m0 she is not a very bright galaxy, mostly due to the distance of 56 Mio LY.

Other than her famous neighbouring galaxy NGC 6946 she is not exactly very well renown. But like the fire cracker-galaxy, a couple supernovas have been monitored. Sciencs frequenty has been interested in ngc 6951 as some intruiging molecular gas clouds associated to circumnuclear star-forming regions have been identified in this galaxy.
